Q: Is this an individual policy? 
A: Each policy is in the name of the main member (policy holder), however you form part of a group which means that the group shares the risk and premium cost.

Q: Who is the underwriter?  
A: AVBOB Mutual Assurance Society.

​

Q: Am I obliged to use AVBOB as the funeral undertaker?
A: No, however as a member of this group, AVBOB provides certain discounts in terms of funeral costs.

Q: What is the role of VIKO SERVICES? 
A: VIKO SERVICES is an administrator for your funeral policy, registered as a Category 1A service provider by the FSCA with 20 years’ experience in the funeral administration industry. We will administer your policy: on-boarding, premium payments to AVBOB and all your claims. We pride ourselves in being compliant to the Regulations and are being monitored on a quarterly basis by an FSCA - appointed compliance officer [Masthead].

Q: What is the entry age? 
A: Main member and spouse – between 18 and 64 years; Children: stillborn (gestation period 26 weeks) to 21 years [see comprehensive conditions regarding students, mentally- and physical disabled and adoptive children); Parents: maximum four (parents and in-laws) with equal cover not exceeding the cover of the main member and not older than 74 years.

Q: Is there a waiting period?
A: Yes – 6 months except for unnatural deaths excluding suicide.

Q: What is the definition of a child?  
A: * stillborn [over 26 weeks gestation period] not older than 21 years, *biological child, * legally adopted child * foster child, * children over 21 (full-time student not older than 26 years, mentally/physically disabled child provided cover commenced before the age of 21 years. Maximum 5 children per policy.

Q: Can foreign nationals enjoy cover? 
A: All policyholders (main members) must be South African citizens.

Q: Can I nominate anyone as beneficiary? 
A: Yes, as long as the beneficiary has an RSA Identity document and older than 18 years. 

​

Q: What is an extended family member? 
A: A family member not part of the Main Policy.

​

Q: Can I reclaim any paid premiums if I cancel the policy?  
A: No. This is not a cash-back policy, you enjoy cover per month. (Payment end of the month for cover the next month)

Q: How will a claim be paid? 
A: Via EFT into the main member’s / beneficiary’s nominated bank account.

​

Q: How soon will a claim be processed? 
A: As soon as all the relevant and required and certified documentation is received. It will then be sent to AVBOB for verification and payments. 

​

Q: What is the form and manner of supporting documents? 
A: Copies of original documents certified by a Commissioner of Oaths.

Q: Which documentation is needed to submit a claim? 
A CERTIFIED copy of:

  1. ID - [Main member]

  2. ID - [Beneficiary]

  3. ID - [Deceased]

  4. Abridged death certificate DHA-5 AND

  5. First 3 pages of DHA 1663. Registration of death/stillborn OR

  6. First 3 pages of DHA 1680. (If deceased died at home)

  7. Burial Order OR

  8. Letter of Confirmation of Funeral Parlor (if not AVBOB)

  9. Proof of Bank Account (Beneficiary)

  10. In case of an unnatural death: SAPS case number and declaration of cause of death. (Relevant document for completion by SAPS will be provided by VIKO SERVICES. Please contact us)

  11. If disputed or applicable: Unabridged birth certificate, letter of confirmation of university, college, etc... Letter from physician in terms of a gestation period.

Q: Is there a time frame to submit a claim?

A: No, VIKO SERVICES will endeavor to submit the claim as long as all premiums were paid by the time of death.
